The magic of pantomime has returned, and this year’s Cinderella at the Wyvern Theatre is a sparkling, family-friendly extravaganza that’s guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages.
Following the successes of Beauty and the Beast and Snow White in previous years, the producers of the Wyvern panto have once again delivered an evening filled with hilarity, heart, and a touch of Christmas magic.
Starring Coronation Street’s Lisa George as the Fairy Godmother, Ben Goffe as the loveable Buttons, and Swindon’s panto legend David Ashley as Dame Molly Miggins, this production is a true festive treat.
Ben Goffe as Buttons brought boundless energy, bouncing across the stage and engaging brilliantly with the audience. His comedic timing and infectious enthusiasm made him an instant favourite with both children and adults.
And then there’s David Ashley as Dame Molly Miggins. A mainstay of Swindon pantomime, Ashley proved once again why the Wyvern audiences adore him. His larger-than-life performance, quick wit, and hilarious antics had everyone in stitches from start to finish.
Lisa George’s portrayal of the Fairy Godmother was both enchanting and commanding, sprinkling magic over the stage and setting the tone for an unforgettable evening and she even stepped up and wowed the audience with her sensational vocals – who knew Beth Tinker had such an amazing voice?
As always, audience participation added an extra layer of fun, and this year’s surprise star was Dave in the front row. Whether he was auditioning for next year’s show or simply swept up in the festive spirit, his five minutes of fame brought even more laughter to an already joyous evening.
Imagine Theatre’s stunning set design and intricate costumes transported the audience into the magical world of Cinderella. Every detail was meticulously crafted, bringing the fairytale to life with vibrant colours and sparkling enchantment.
But the real showstopper came at the end of the first half when Pegasus, a shimmering, magical winged horse, flew Cinderella to the ball. This breath taking moment had the audience gasping in amazement and set the perfect tone for the magical transformation of Cinders’ fate.
The musical numbers were another highlight, packed with catchy tunes and lively choreography. While there were some early sound hiccups, they were quickly resolved, ensuring the audience could fully immerse themselves in the fun.
As the curtain fell on the ball scene and Cinderella’s happily-ever-after began, it truly felt like Christmas had arrived. This year’s Cinderella is not just a pantomime; it’s a joyous celebration of the festive season, perfect for families and friends to enjoy together.
