The incident occurred on 25th February at the home of Mr Ricketts in Westbourne Court, Swindon. An unprovoked assault saw Walker put his 53-year-old uncle in a headlock and repeatedly strike his head against a wall. Tragically, the violent attack led to Terry Ricketts going into cardiac arrest. Despite swift intervention by emergency services, Mr Ricketts was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the attack, Walker fled but was apprehended by police the next morning and charged with murder. After a five-day trial in August, the jury found him guilty, leading to today’s sentencing.

Detective Inspector Debbie Hatch, the Senior Investigating Officer, expressed her condolences to the family. “This has been an awful experience for Terry’s family and, while nothing can bring him back.

“I hope today’s sentencing can bring some form of closure for them,” she said. Hatch also commended the officers involved in the case for their tireless efforts in ensuring justice was served.
