Swindon Man Banned from Driving After Cocaine Found in System

A Swindon man has been disqualified from driving after he was found with multiple drugs in his system – including cocaine and amphetamines.

Ryan Miller, aged 36, of Whitworth Road, appeared before the courts on Friday 11th July after admitting to driving under the influence of drugs.

The incident took place earlier this year on 18th January, when officers from Wiltshire Police spotted a vehicle of interest – a silver BMW 335d – parked at the Texaco petrol station at the bottom of Kingshill Road.

Officers approached the car and identified Miller as the driver. He was asked to complete a roadside drug wipe, which returned positive results for cocaine, amphetamine and benzoylecgonine, a compound linked to the breakdown of cocaine in the body.

He was subsequently charged and has since pleaded guilty to drug driving.

As a result, Miller has been banned from getting behind the wheel for the next 18 months. He must also complete up to 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days and has been ordered to pay a surcharge of £114.

PC Brewster from Wiltshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team stressed the dangers of drug driving, describing it as one of the “fatal five” offences – a group of high-risk behaviours linked to the most serious road traffic collisions.

“Driving under the influence of drink or drugs puts lives at risk – not just the driver’s, but everyone else on the road,” he said. “It’s a choice with potentially tragic consequences, and we are committed to holding offenders to account.”

The case serves as a reminder of the continuing effort by police to tackle drug-related offences on Swindon’s roads and the ongoing work to improve safety through both enforcement and education.
