Swindon GP Practices Announce Merger Plans: No Impact Expected for Patients

Patients of Whalebridge Practice and Sparcells Surgery will witness a significant change as the two GP practices prepare to merge at the start of next month.

Effective from Monday 1st April, Whalebridge Practice will merge with Sparcells Surgery, including its branch site of Great Western Surgery.

Despite this consolidation, patients are being advised they need not fret as the transition is expected to have no adverse effects on their healthcare experiences and they are encouraged to utilise the same contact methods as before for assistance and care.

Following the merger, all three sites will adopt the Whalebridge name. While patients may notice the Whalebridge name in their correspondence, including letters and text messages, the level of care and services provided will remain consistent.

Sarah Smith, Practice Manager at Sparcells Surgery, expressed enthusiasm about the merger, highlighting the benefits it brings to both staff and patients. The consolidation allows for increased appointment availability and access to a wider range of clinical services across the three sites.

Moreover, patients can soon access care and services beyond their registered GP practice, potentially leading to quicker appointments or consultations with specialised clinicians.

The merger aligns with the trend of neighbouring GP practices merging to streamline operations, share resources, and expand clinical offerings.

Importantly, no job losses are anticipated as a result of this merger, ensuring continuity of care for patients and job security for staff members across all three sites.
