Swindon Families Celebrate as Nearly All Pupils Secure First-Choice Primary School Place

Parents across Swindon are breathing a collective sigh of relief today as figures released by Swindon Borough Council confirm that the overwhelming majority of children starting primary school this September have been offered a place at their first-choice school.

Of the 2,494 on-time applications received by the Schools Admissions team, a reassuring 96.6% were allocated their top preference. Even more notably, 99.7% were granted a place at one of their three selected schools.

The announcement, made today (16 April), follows the national allocation day for primary school places and reflects the continued efforts of the Council to manage demand and capacity across the borough’s education system.

Councillor Adorabelle Amaral-Shaikh, Cabinet Member for Education, praised the work of the team behind the scenes:

“It is great news that we have been able to offer so many children a place at their number one choice of primary school for this coming September.

A lot of work goes on behind the scenes by our Admissions team to ensure we have enough places at our schools and then they have the job of processing all the on-time applications to match children up with one of their three choices.”

She also took the opportunity to offer her best wishes to the new cohort of Reception children and their families as they prepare for a significant milestone.

Parents who submitted their applications before the 15 January deadline and opted to receive their offers via email will have started receiving confirmations from this morning. Others can expect to receive letters or follow-up communications throughout the day.

Anyone with queries is encouraged to contact School Admissions by emailing schooladmissions@swindon.gov.uk or speaking directly with their chosen school.
