Those visiting Swindon Designer Outlet over the next few weeks are in for a treat, as the centre has unveiled its boldest seasonal celebration yet. The Great Summer Social has officially arrived, promising a six‑week programme of free activities and lively entertainment that will run right through to Sunday 1st September.
The outlet has been transformed into a colourful nod to the 90s and early 00s, bringing a wave of nostalgia for parents while giving younger visitors a taste of an era they never knew they’d love. From giant games to photo‑ready moments, the whole place hums with a festival feel.
Visitors can strike a pose with an oversized boombox backdrop, tackle vintage arcade machines, or test their balance and skill on an outdoor climbing wall – free of charge every Tuesday and Wednesday. A vinyl record trail invites families to hunt down hidden gems around the centre, with a retro‑themed prize waiting at the end. For those who simply want to take it all in, the chill‑out area offers the perfect perch to soak up the atmosphere.
Centre Manager Tina Cumpstey told The Swindonian:
“We wanted to create something that truly lifts spirits and gives families a reason to keep coming back over the summer. It’s about more than shopping – it’s about making memories. The feedback so far has been brilliant.”
As well as the fun and games, the outlet’s retail line‑up is growing. Puzzle and games specialist Ravensburger recently opened its doors, while stationery favourite Smiggle has been confirmed to launch on 31st July. These follow the successful arrival of Crocs earlier in the season, a brand whose instantly recognisable footwear is already proving popular with visitors.
With online searches for “family‑friendly summer activities” reportedly at record levels across the UK, the timing of this vibrant programme could not be better. Whether shopping, playing or simply taking in the nostalgic beats, The Great Summer Social makes a lively day out for all ages.
