Swindon Borough Council’s commitment to recognizing outstanding achievements in the local construction industry was on full display at the annual Swindon Building Control Local Building Excellence Awards. Held at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street, the event celebrated excellence in technical innovation, sustainability, safety, and design within the realm of construction.
This year’s awards ceremony saw 12 deserving winners acknowledged, spanning a spectrum from smaller residential projects to larger housing developments. Among the recipients were local builders Paul Cook Construction Ltd and Neil Armstrong Architectural Services, who clinched the accolade for Best Small-Sized Residential Extension. A C Watson and Son Building Contractors, along with MJF CAD Solutions Ltd, were honoured with the award for Best Medium-Sized Extension.

Larchbrook Ltd earned recognition for Best Conversion to a Dwelling, while R and R Design and Build Contractors Ltd and Potton Architectural Design triumphed in the Best New Dwelling category. Noteworthy winners also included Clements and NMW Architects for Best New Small Housing Development, Snape Contracting Services Ltd and Bailey Partnership for their contributions to the Lydiard Hotel and Conference Centre, and Great Western Building Services for Best Large Extension.
The prestigious title of Best New Large Housing Development was bestowed upon Hills Homes for their remarkable project at The Paddocks in Blunsdon. Additionally, the commendable efforts of Jon Holloway and the STFC Community Foundation were acknowledged for their work on The Nigel Eady Training Centre, deemed Best Public or Community Building.
In a nod to remarkable transformations, Beard Construction and BBA Architects were lauded for their exceptional conversion of Brunel’s former Carriage Works, off London Street, winning the title of Best Non-Residential Conversion.
Individual honours were also bestowed upon Paul Jones of Willmott Dixon for Best Residential Site Manager and Steve Ratcliffe of Talus Construction for Best Non-Residential Site Manager.
The winners of the Swindon Building Control Local Building Excellence Awards will now advance to the LABC Regional Building Excellence awards for the West of England region this spring, further highlighting the caliber of construction excellence in Swindon.
