Swindon Central Library Becomes New Hub for Council Support Services

From Monday 14th April, residents across Swindon will find it easier to get help with council services thanks to a centralised access point now available at Swindon Central Library.

In response to feedback from the community, Swindon Borough Council has shifted its face-to-face Customer Services team from the Civic Offices in Euclid Street to the more accessible location of Central Library in Regent Circus. Open Monday to Friday, from 10am to 5pm, the new setup aims to bring Council support closer to the heart of the town and to the people who rely on it most.

The move forms part of a wider effort by the Council to improve visibility and simplify the way residents access key services. Those visiting the library will now be able to speak directly with staff for guidance or make use of self-service machines to manage tasks such as applying for blue badges, organising waste and recycling services, requesting housing repairs, or dealing with parking permits and fines.

The change also sees the introduction of new signage within the library to clearly highlight the Council services now available there. Meanwhile, visitors to the Civic Offices will notice a shift in how they check in. With the previous Customer Services team now relocated, a touchscreen sign-in system has been introduced at the Civic Offices, allowing guests to digitally alert staff to their arrival.

Pearl, a familiar face to many, will be one of the Customer Support Guides now based at the library. She said: “We are here to support residents access a wide array of Council services. While many of these can be accessed online, we know many people require extra support and guidance. Having worked with local people to improve our processes, we look forward to providing our customers with an overall improved experience should they need our help.”

Councillor Emma Bushell, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Customer Services, added: “It is really important that the Council listens to the feedback of its residents. I’m pleased to see the improvements we have made based on the views of local people, as it reflects our commitment to listening to the feedback of our residents.

“By moving colleagues from the Civic Offices to the Central Library, our team will have more direct contact with residents, while new sign-in screens will mean guests to the Civic Offices are unaffected by this change.

We are encouraging residents to continue sharing their feedback with us, which will help us to build a better, fairer and greener Swindon.”

This updated approach offers a more convenient and community-focused way for residents to engage with Council services in a welcoming and familiar setting.
