Swindon Carers Centre, an award-winning charity supporting unpaid carers, is on the lookout for passionate, skilled individuals to join its Board of Trustees. This comes as the charity anticipates the departure of three longstanding trustees reaching the end of their terms next year, creating a need for new voices to guide its mission to value and support carers in Swindon.
The charity is specifically seeking individuals with expertise in finance, fundraising, media, income diversification, and digital skills. However, an understanding of carers’ unique challenges, either through personal experience or familiarity, would be highly valued.
Susanna Jones, Chief Executive Officer at Swindon Carers Centre, explained the importance of the trustee role, stating, “Our Board of Trustees is essential to the charity’s strategic development, ensuring that the voices of unpaid carers are heard and their needs are represented. We are focused on finding trustees who bring new skills and perspectives as we enter a period of change.”
She emphasised that becoming a trustee offers not only the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the charity but also personal growth: “This role isn’t just about giving back; it’s a chance for personal and professional development too. We want to hear from people eager to make a tangible difference in the lives of Swindon’s unpaid carers.”
Vice-Chair of Trustees, Nina Czajikowski, described her own experience as extremely rewarding. She said, “I feel incredibly fortunate to contribute to such a meaningful organisation, which has allowed me to use my professional skills while learning new ones along the way.”
Trustee Neil Steptoe, who joined the board in 2021, praised the charity’s impact, stating, “Being part of Swindon Carers Centre means contributing to a team that genuinely improves the lives of thousands in our community. It’s fulfilling work with real local impact.”
Swindon Carers Centre holds the Trusted Charity Level 2 and Carers Trust Excellence for Carers Quality Marks. In 2022, it was awarded Wiltshire Life’s Charity of the Year and earned national recognition in the Charity Film Awards with a Gold award for its impactful film Baggage, featuring young carers.
