A Swindon-based husband-and-wife electrical firm has taken home not one, but two trophies at this year’s Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Awards – a proud moment not just for their team, but for the entire town.
The Electrical Compliance Collective – known locally as TECC – is run by Maria and Peter McCallum. The couple have been Chamber members for three years, but this was their very first time entering the highly regarded annual awards.
Held on Tuesday 2nd July at the grand Easthampstead Park Hotel in Wokingham, the ceremony brought together leading businesses from across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Swindon – all under one roof to celebrate excellence across twelve categories.
Rather than spread themselves thin, Maria and Peter chose to enter just one category: Excellence in Customer Service – an area they’ve always felt was at the heart of everything they do.
It turned out to be a wise decision.
Not only did TECC win the award, but the couple were left stunned when they were later announced as the overall Business of the Year – a title awarded to one of the category winners.
“It came as a complete surprise,” said Maria. “We were absolutely over the moon just to win the Customer Service award – that meant the world to us. But to then be named Business of the Year as well… we were speechless.”
Based in Dorcan, TECC provide a wide range of electrical services across domestic, commercial and industrial sectors, including solar PV installations. The business currently employs 21 people, and six of the team joined them on the night of the awards.
The accolades are a huge recognition of the standards TECC uphold – not just in their technical work, but in how they look after their clients. With Peter leading operations day-to-day, and Maria steering other parts of the business, it’s a real team effort built on trust, consistency, and a shared pride in their work.
For the McCallums, winning on a stage that spans such a large and economically significant region is a huge achievement – and one that shines a light on the brilliant businesses that call Swindon home.
The awards were hosted by none other than former Olympic athlete Kriss Akabusi, who added plenty of personality to the evening’s celebrations.
“We’re incredibly proud to represent Swindon and to be recognised at this level,” said Maria. “We’re still on a high – it was such a fantastic night.”
From a single nomination to a double win, this is a local business proving that with the right values and customer focus, anything is possible.
