The Swindon Area Green Party is sounding the alarm over the proposed New Burcot Farm development, a joint venture by Crest Nicholson and Vestry, which has stirred significant controversy.
The project, designed to bring approximately 400 new homes to the area situated between Tadpole Garden Village and Abbey Farm, has faced opposition from local Green Party Parish councillor Bradley Williams.
Councillor Williams, known for his prior activism, has raised objections, highlighting concerns about initiating a new development while existing projects, such as Tadpole Garden Village and Abbey Farm, remain incomplete or unadopted by the council. Drawing attention to past delays seen in the Redhouse development, Williams calls for prudence in approving new projects.
Councillor Williams seeks to delay approval until both Tadpole and Abbey Farm have been officially adopted.
Expressing empathy for the affected residents, Councillor Williams asserts, “We have large building developments in our area, and yet residents are left to live on building sites and in unadopted roads for years.” He calls on Swindon Borough Council to reject the application promptly, demonstrating support for the community.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by current planning laws, Councillor Williams, while realistic about the petition’s efficacy, sees it as a powerful message. “I am fully aware of the formidable hurdles facing the council,” he said.
“I harbour no illusions about the efficacy of this petition. Nevertheless, it transcends its mere existence—it serves as a resounding message that residents demand acknowledgment and crave transformative change. I am here to heed the voices of residents and stand as their advocate.”
