As we ready ourselves for the warmer months, the National Trust at Avebury has unveiled a vibrant line-up of events and activities set to take place throughout May and June 2025.
From ancient landscapes and creative walks to blossom-filled celebrations and Shakespeare under the stars, there’s something for everyone at this unique prehistoric site.
The Heart of Avebury
At the core of the visitor experience is Avebury Manor Garden, a peaceful series of garden ‘rooms’ each bursting with character and charm. Whether you’re exploring on foot or by mobility scooter, it’s a calming retreat that pairs beautifully with the rest of Avebury’s historic offer.
Nearby, the Henge and Stone Circles stand as a silent but powerful reminder of the area’s prehistoric significance. The largest circle of its kind in the world, it’s best experienced on a guided tour, where stories of the past are brought vividly to life.
History enthusiasts will also find wonder in the Alexander Keiller Museum, where 5,000 years of artefacts—including a remarkably preserved human skeleton—tell the tales of those who once walked the same ground.
May and June Highlights
The events schedule kicks off on Wednesday 7 May with a Landscape Walk up Waden Hill (£8pp), perfect for National Walking Month. Led by a volunteer guide, this circular route weaves through the sacred landscape with stories of ancient Avebury along the way.
On Sunday 18 May, artist Tamsin Loveday invites you to experience the site through sight and sound with her Drawing Closer Art Walk (£25pp), a sensory, sketchbook-led journey requiring no prior art experience.
The Guided Tour of Avebury Manor Garden, hosted on Thursday 22 and 26 May (£10pp), offers insights from Head Gardener Garry on how this organic oasis is adapting to climate shifts—ideal for green-fingered visitors seeking inspiration.
From Saturday 24 May to Sunday 1 June, Avebury springs to life with Blossom Celebrations, including flower crown crafting, blossom-themed games, and local artisan stalls. During the same week, children and families can enjoy free half-term fun with trails and traditional games in the Manor Garden (normal admission applies).
June continues the celebration of nature with a Summer Foraging Workshop on Saturday 7 June (£55pp). Led by forager-herbalist Fred Gillam, it’s a hands-on masterclass in identifying edible and medicinal plants in the surrounding countryside.
On Father’s Day, Sunday 15 June, treat Dad to a scenic Landscape Walk: East of Avebury (£8pp). Starting among the stone circles, the walk explores barrows and the Ridgeway, rounding off with views along the ancient Avenue.
Looking Ahead: Shakespeare in the Garden
Looking a little further ahead, make note of Sunday 10 August, when The Three Inch Fools bring their high-energy, musical rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the open-air stage in Avebury Manor Garden. It promises an evening of laughter and whimsy in a truly magical setting (£20 adults / £12 children).
