St. Luke’s Academy Students Shine on GCSE Results Day

Students at St. Luke’s Academy, part of The White Horse Federation, have every reason to celebrate today as they gather to receive their much-anticipated GCSE results. The results mark a significant achievement, especially considering this is only the second year that grading has returned to pre-pandemic standards.

This year, St. Luke’s Academy pulled out all the stops to ensure that every student was as prepared as possible for their first formal exams. The school provided additional revision sessions, 1-2-1 interventions, and exceptional well-being support from the pastoral team, all of which have paid off handsomely.

Among the standout achievements, the school has seen a continued improvement in Attainment 8 (A8) scores and a rise in the number of qualifications students have achieved, marking a fourth consecutive year of growth. Impressively, over 70% of students earned six or more qualifications, including crucial passes in Maths and English. Notably, this year also marks the first time St. Luke’s Academy has offered—and successfully achieved—a GCSE qualification in English Literature.

For the students themselves, the day has been filled with joy and relief. Roxanne Pound, a student who joined St. Luke’s at the end of Year 9, expressed her excitement: “I am so thrilled with my results! I could not have achieved these grades without all the help I’ve been given both in and out of the classroom. Thank you so much, and I’m looking forward to going on to College.”

Fellow student Ben Osmond echoed these sentiments, saying: “I am speechless! I got so much more than I expected. This means I can go on to a higher-level IT course at College, which is amazing! Thank you, everyone at St. Luke’s, for supporting me and believing in me.”

Principal Judith Buckingham praised both the students and staff for their collaborative efforts, which have led to the outstanding results: “I am so proud of all our fabulous students and our wonderful staff team, who have worked together to exceed expectations and further improve attainment. This will enable our students to access more high-level further education opportunities than ever before. We will miss all our departing students and wish them the very best for their future.”

Simon Cowley, interim CEO at The White Horse Federation, also offered his congratulations: “Huge congratulations to Year 11! Well done on your results. I am very grateful to all our staff for the hard work they put in every day, and I also want to thank all the parents and carers for their continued support, which we greatly appreciate.”

As the results come in, it is clear that the hard work, resilience, and dedication of the St. Luke’s Academy community have led to a truly glowing success for the Class of 2024.
