South Swindon Parish Council awards Front Garden Competition winners

South Swindon Parish Councillors presented the winners of the Front Garden Competition with their awards at a prize giving ceremony on Tuesday 9th August.

The idea behind the competition was to encourage residents to use the front of their properties to brighten up their neighbourhoods with The Midcounties Co-op donating £250 to the parish council to use towards prizes.

The six winners are Gail Collins and Roy and Belinda Partington of Park South, Simon Horner from the Eastcott Road are, Hilary Woodward from Lawn, Rhiannon Morris from Broome Manor and Nenita Austin from Old Town.

The winners were awarded their prize money and custom-made plaques made by South Swindon Parish Councillor Vince Ayris.

Linda Kasmaty, Chair of the Parish Council’s Environment Working Party: “We were really pleased with the standard of entries in our first front garden competition.

“Front gardens make such a difference to a street and so we’re hoping this idea catches on and we have more people considering how they could ‘green up’ the front of their properties. Please get in touch if this is something you are thinking about, and we can have ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos.”

Dave Griffiths, Chair of the Parish Council’s Youth Working Party: “It was great to give out some prizes to the winners of the Parish Council’s Best Front Garden Competition, and a big thank you to Midcounties Cooperative Society for donating the prizes.”
