The funding will benefit facilities in South Swindon, including the development and improvement of changing rooms, grass pitches, 3G football turf pitches, pavilions, floodlights, fencing, and enhanced disabled access. These upgrades aim to provide high-quality facilities that are accessible to a wide range of individuals.

The Conservative Government’s capital investment in grassroots facilities, totaling £300 million nationwide, aims to deliver upgrades, improvements, and new pitches. The primary focus is to make top-tier facilities available for football, hockey, and other grassroots sports.

Furthermore, at least 50% of the investment will be directed towards underprivileged areas, ensuring that a larger number of individuals have the opportunity to participate in sports. The program also emphasises increasing participation among underrepresented groups such as women, girls, and individuals with disabilities.

By promoting sports and physical activity, this initiative aims to deliver significant mental health and well-being benefits to the nation. It also aims to alleviate pressure on NHS waiting lists by improving overall well-being.

Commenting, Sir Robert Buckland MP said: “Grassroots facilities are essential for nurturing future sporting talent and encouraging people to get active which benefits their physical and mental wellbeing.

“That is why I welcome the funding from the Conservative Government which will see South Swindon benefit from £252,640 to improve our local sports facilities and help more people access them.
Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer also commented on the initiative, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring equal access to sports, which is crucial for the physical and mental health of the nation.
“Today we are delivering more than 1,700 new and improved grassroots sports facilities across the UK to continue to support, sustain and grow community and grassroots sport – so that physical activity is accessible to all, no matter a person’s background or location.”
