Sir Robert Buckland Celebrates Success of Apprenticeships in South Swindon During National Apprenticeship Week

Since his tenure as Member of Parliament for South Swindon began in 2010, Sir Robert Buckland MP has witnessed the transformative impact of apprenticeships in the local community.

There have been over 5.7 million apprenticeships created nationwide since 2010 and Robert Buckland has highlighted the significant achievement of 9,980 apprenticeship starts recorded in South Swindon in the same period.

The diverse range of career pathways available to apprentices reflects the success of the government’s approach, with nearly 700 apprenticeship training courses now on offer. This includes the recent introduction of a new teaching apprenticeship, providing an alternative route for aspiring educators to gain qualifications.

Investment in skills and apprenticeships remains a priority for the government, with funding set to increase to £2.7 billion by 2024-25.
Commenting, Sir Robert Buckland MP said: “I hear from my constituents the impact the Conservative Government’s apprenticeship scheme has had on opening up new opportunities and career pathways, as well as playing a critical role in to the local economy of South Swindon.

“During Apprenticeship Week, I want to congratulate all 9,980 of my constituents who have started an apprenticeship since I first became Member of Parliament for South Swindon back in 2010.

“With nearly 700 training courses now available, the plan under the Conservatives is working, delivering a brighter future for people across the country by ensuring they have the skills they need to secure high-skilled jobs, creating a stronger economy.”

Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships, and Higher Education, Robert Halfon MP, echoed these sentiments, emphasising the invaluable contribution of apprentices to the economy and reaffirming the government’s dedication to providing opportunities for young people to thrive.
