This weekend, Tesco shoppers in Swindon are in for a golden opportunity, with the chance to win a share of a staggering £500,000 for their local schools or children’s groups. On Saturday, 21 September, between 12pm and 1pm, customers visiting Tesco’s Express store at Freshbrook Village Centre can take part in a special lucky dip, where one lucky individual will discover a gold version of Tesco’s famous blue voting token.
The customer who finds the coveted gold token will be able to select which of the three chosen local schools or children’s groups will receive a £5,000 Golden Grant. The grant will go towards vital resources such as equipment or healthy food, helping to give children in Swindon a stronger start in life.
Claire De Silva, Tesco’s Head of Communities, spoke of the importance of the campaign, saying: “Schools and local projects are vital in supporting our children and our communities. We’re giving customers the chance to make a difference to a school or group that’s doing amazing work on their doorstep.”
The £500,000 giveaway is part of Tesco’s Stronger Starts campaign, an £8 million grant programme in partnership with Groundwork UK. These grants help support schools and children’s groups by providing nutritious food, healthy activities, and essential equipment for young people’s physical and mental wellbeing.
Schools and children’s groups in Swindon can apply for a grant through Groundwork by visiting Tesco’s website. Successful applications will then be put to a vote in their local Tesco store, where customers will use the traditional blue token to choose their preferred project.
Since launching the Community Grants programme in 2016, Tesco has donated over £100 million to more than 50,000 schools and community groups across the UK.
