Sequins, Sparkle, and Support: Swindon Fashion Show Raises Over £600 for Domestic Abuse Charity

Swindon’s festive spirit shone brightly this Christmas as a local fashion show raised more than £600 for a cause close to the heart of many in the community. Organised by Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Service (SDASS/SWA), the event combined the season’s best looks with the goal of supporting children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

The catwalk was brimming with seasonal cheer, showcasing a delightful mix of Christmas jumpers, party attire, festive pyjamas, and even wedding wear. The event was a perfect blend of style and purpose, with all proceeds going towards supporting SDASS/SWA’s important work with children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.

Through ticket sales, a raffle generously supported by local businesses, and a variety of donated clothes and festive goods for sale, the evening raised over £600. These funds will directly contribute to trauma-informed programmes aimed at helping young people recover from the effects of domestic abuse.

The charity works with children aged 5-18, offering crucial support to those from homes affected by abuse. The goal is not only to help children recover from trauma but also to prevent the cycle of abuse from continuing. By providing education and support, SDASS/SWA strives to give children the best possible chance at a brighter, healthier future.

SDASS/SWA is also well known for its work in local schools, delivering the HOPE Programme, which educates young people about healthy relationships. The programme helps to prevent future harm by equipping young people with the skills to recognise and build positive relationships.

Emma Maclennan, the charity’s Children and Young People Manager, spoke about the success of the event: “This was a fantastic evening that will make a real difference to Swindon’s children and young people. It’s all about helping victims of domestic abuse recover and ensuring the next generation understands how to build healthy relationships. The fashion show was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the generosity of our local community, and we hope to make these events a regular part of our fundraising calendar.”

Looking ahead to 2025, SDASS/SWA has more fundraising initiatives planned, furthering its mission to support survivors of domestic abuse and work towards a future where abuse is no longer a part of Swindon’s story.
