On Friday, a deal was completed which resulted in Swindon Town Football Club and Swindon Town Community Mutual Limited co-owning The County Ground stadium.
This joint-venture agreement marks the first time in the club’s 144-year history that its stadium will be partly owned by supporters.
The purchase of the stadium for £2.3 million was funded by the Nigel Eady Trust, a legacy left to the club by a life-long fan on the condition that the money be used for the club and the local community’s long-term benefit.
The move will allow for significant developments across the stadium, including upgrading two stands and building a hotel and conference facility over the next five years.
Swindon Town chairman, Clem Morfuni, and TrustSTFC chairman, Steve Mytton, both expressed their excitement for the future of the club under this landmark move whilst Councillor David Renard, the leader of Swindon Borough Council, commended the collaborative approach taken by the club and Supporters’ Trust and expressed his anticipation for the future of the County Ground and Swindon Town Football Club.
