This Saturday, 9th August, the crew at Royal Wootton Bassett Fire Station will be swapping hoses for hospitality as they host their annual open day in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity. The station, located on Station Road, will welcome the public between 10am and 2pm, offering a rare chance to step behind the red doors and see first-hand how the fire service operates.
The event promises something for everyone – from vehicle displays featuring the station’s fire appliance and water carrier, to a tombola and activities tailored for younger visitors. It’s a proper family-friendly occasion with a serious purpose: raising funds for a charity that supports serving and retired fire and rescue staff, as well as their families, during times of need.
Watch Manager Tom McInerney said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to our open day here at the fire station. There will be a chance to see our appliances and have a look around the fire station, as well as raise some money for a well-deserving charity.”
But it’s not just about the bells and whistles. For those curious about life in the fire service, there’ll be an opportunity to speak to the crew about becoming an on-call firefighter – a vital role that supports full-time teams in responding to emergencies across Wiltshire.
McInerney added: “If you’re also interested in becoming an on-call firefighter, there will be a chance to find out how it works, ask the crew questions and find out how you can get involved.”
