Resurfacing Programme to Get Underway Over Summer Holidays

A significant road resurfacing programme is set to take place in Swindon over the coming weeks, targeting nine key locations across the borough.

Scheduled to take place during the summer holidays, the council hope the timing will minimise disruption for local residents and road users.

Swindon Borough Council has allocated just over £4 million for its annual major and minor road resurfacing programme, designed to address deteriorating road surfaces throughout the borough. This month, repair works have already been completed on Tadpole Lane and Thamesdown Drive.

The upcoming resurfacing efforts will focus on the following roads:

  • Hook Street (26-27 July)
  • Inverary Road, Wroughton (29-31 July)
  • Ferndale Road (1-2 August)
  • Gooch Street (5-7 August)
  • Huntley Close, Walcot (8 August)
  • Markham Close, Walcot (8 August)
  • Dawlish Road, Park North (9 August)
  • Shakespeare Path, Stratton (12 August)
  • Boscombe Road, Moredon (13 August)

Hook Street, Inverary Road, and Ferndale Road will be the first to undergo resurfacing, with works estimated to take two days each. To ensure the swift completion of these projects, roads will be closed from 8am to 6pm daily. While local residents will still have access, diversions will be in place for other motorists, and letters are being distributed to inform residents of the scheduled works.

The remaining six sites will see resurfacing activities throughout August, utilising daytime closures. Residents and motorists are encouraged to check the Council’s website for comprehensive details and the latest updates.

Councillor Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment and Transport, commented: “We have a long list of roads which are in need of repair across Swindon and these ones are on our priority list and have been identified by our inspectors as being in really poor condition.

“A lack of investment over the years means there are many more roads that require our attention, but we only have so much capital funding to carry out this work and we have to manage this carefully to keep the Borough’s roads safe and in as good a condition as we can for local residents. We have planned this work to coincide with the summer holidays to minimise inconvenience, but we would just ask those directly affected to bear with us while we carry out these essential repairs over the coming weeks.”
