Renewed Appeal for Information Following Tragic M4 Collision

Police investigating a fatal collision on the M4 are renewing their appeal for witnesses to come forward.

The incident occurred on the westbound stretch of the motorway between junctions 15 and 16 at around 11:50 am on Saturday 9th March. Emergency responders rushed to the scene following reports of a Volvo S40 veering off the carriageway and colliding with a tree.

Tragically, a woman in her 60s from Oxford, who was seated in the front of the vehicle, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The male driver and a female passenger in her 20s were both transported to Southmead Hospital in critical condition. The driver and the female passenger remain in a serious state, while the male passenger in his 30s sustained an arm injury.

Detective Constable Leigh Mayhew, leading the investigation as part of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said “This was a very serious collision resulting in the loss of a woman’s life and leaving two others critically injured.”

Mayhew urged anyone who was traveling on the M4 around midday on Saturday, particularly those who witnessed the collision approximately one mile from junction 16, to come forward with any information they may have.
