A reminder that voters now required to show poll card at local election

Swindon Borough Council is taking part in the voter identification (voter ID) pilot. The pilot will require Swindon residents to produce their poll card as a form of identification before they are able to place their vote at a polling station in the local elections on 3 May 2018.

Swindon is one of five local authorities across England taking part in a Government-funded pilot to test the use of voter ID in local government elections to address electoral fraud. The pilots are the first in a series to allow the Electoral Commission and Government to evaluate the impact of asking for ID before a decision is taken on whether or not to roll it out nationally.

A poll card will be sent to you if you are registered to vote in a polling station by 26 April 2018. The poll card is the quickest and most convenient way to vote because it contains a unique barcode which will be scanned to prove identity. If you forget your poll card on the day you can present an alternative form of ID such as a passport. For a full list of accepted ID and more information, visit: swindon.gov.uk/VoterID.
