The prospect of rejoining the European Union is hailed as an “act of patriotism” by the orchestrators of the impending second National Rejoin March (NRM), scheduled to grace London’s streets later this month.
They emphasise that a palpable surge of enthusiasm surrounds this event, set to commence at Hyde Park Corner at noon on Saturday, 23rd September.
Peter Corr, a former Army lorry driver and co-founder and leader of the NRM, passionately states, “We implore all those who advocate rejoining to partake in the second march and rally in London on Saturday, 23rd September.
The time has come to transform polling support into tangible action. It’s no longer sufficient to merely lament the state of our nation from the comfort of our homes; let’s take action. We firmly believe that the march and rally will inject substantial impetus into the rejoin movement.”
The list of speakers at the event includes MEP Guy Verhofstadt, who will underscore the “indispensable need” for the UK to rejoin the EU, emphasising that the door remains wide open for its return. He will be accompanied by fellow MEP Terry Reintke, who will highlight the keen interest in the burgeoning citizens’ movement for rejoining the corridors of Brussels.
Notably, half of the speakers at the rally are under the age of 35, with 20-year-old Ceíra Casey Sergeant from Liverpool holding the distinction of being the youngest. Ceíra will share her personal journey through the realm of politics and Brexit, advocating for her generation’s rightful stake in shaping their future.
Adding to the chorus of voices is 25-year-old Greek politics scholar Stella Mavropoulou, who has completed her master’s degree in London. Stella will recount her experiences as a foreign student in the UK and the additional challenges introduced by Brexit, while also illuminating the opportunities that await young people when the UK reunites with the EU.
Richard Corbett CBE, the former leader of the Labour Party Group in the European Parliament, will also look to present a compelling case for rejoining.
Furthermore, the assembled crowd will hear from a diverse array of voices, including Femi Oluwole, Seema Syeda, Gina Miller, Mike Galsworthy, Steve Bray, Liz Webster, Madeleina Kay, Professor AC Grayling, Rachele Arciulo, co-founder of the pan-European EU Party Volt, and Lisa Burton from the campaign group Bremain in Spain.
Lisa, whose upbringing in the Rhondda Valley in Wales informs her perspective, will delve into the lives of the 1.32 million Britons residing in the EU and elucidate the advantages that rejoining the EU will confer upon them.
Since the inaugural Rejoin march in October of the previous year, the clamour for rejoining has reportedly surged, with the latest ITV Youth Tracker poll revealing that 86 percent of young people aged 18-25 would cast their vote in favour of rejoining, and overall national support across all age groups exceeding 60 percent.
According to former Bank of England governor Mark Carney, Brexit bears responsibility for the escalating inflation driving the cost of living crisis in the UK.
Co-founder of NRM, Peter Corr, asserts, “Rejoining the EU is a patriotic duty that will bring benefits to us all. I urge everyone to join us on this march and embark on the path to rejoining.”
There is transport available for anyone from Swindon wanting to join the march picking up at Coate Water at around 9.15.
