Stargazers in Swindon, were treated to a rare celestial event last evening, a spectacle that is to grace the skies only once in the entirety of this year.

To witness the moon this close to Earth again, you are reportedly having to wait until 2037.

The full moon on August 30th, widely referred to as a blue moon, does not allude to its coloration but rather to its unique status as the second full moon to grace the month’s calendar pages.

Adding to the enchantment, this particular full moon is also classified as a supermoon. This astronomical classification signifies its proximity to Earth, resulting in a visually striking appearance of increased size when observed against the backdrop of the night sky.

It’s worth noting that this occurrence marks the second supermoon of August, with the Sturgeon moon of August 1st also achieving this title.

Swindonian readers were quick to share their moon captures on our Facebook page.
