The UK’s largest pub group, boasting over 4,500 establishments, has today announced plans to increase the cost of a pint of beer during peak hours at selected venues.
Stonegate, the owner of well-known chains such as Slug & Lettuce and Yates, believes that the “dynamic pricing” system is a necessary step to counter the growing operational expenses.
Under this initiative, Stonegate plans to implement price adjustments at approximately 800 of its locations during peak periods such as evenings and weekends. However, specific venues subject to these changes have yet to be officially confirmed.
Among the establishments falling under Stonegate’s umbrella in the area are The Wyvern Tavern and The Waiting Room in Swindon Town Centre, The Goddard Arms in Old Town, and the Shield & Dagger on Thames Avenue.
To keep customers informed about these alterations, polite notices will be displayed in the affected pubs. These notices will explain the rationale behind the price adjustments, citing the need to accommodate additional staffing costs, bolstered security measures, heightened cleaning protocols, glassware maintenance, and strict adherence to licensing prerequisites.
Stonegate has previously employed a similar pricing strategy during special events, like World Cup tournaments. However, it has now opted to integrate price variation into its regular operational procedures.
