Prospect Hospice Boosted by Generous Donation from Local Housebuilder

Prospect Hospice in Wroughton, has received a significant financial boost.

Local housebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes South West has made a donation of £1,500 to support the charity’s ongoing fundraising efforts.

Since its founding in 1980, Prospect Hospice has been at the heart of care provision for residents in Swindon, Marlborough, Royal Wootton Bassett, Fairford, and Lechlade. However, the rising costs of medical care, energy, and other essentials have put increased pressure on the hospice’s already stretched resources.

The hospice’s Chief Executive, Jeremy Lune, highlighted the harsh realities facing the organisation: “Our funding from the NHS hasn’t risen in ten years, while everything has become more expensive.

“Prices have risen fast over the last few years, the cost of medical care is climbing, and the price of energy to power our equipment has rocketed. It means that while our inpatient unit has room to look after 12 people, we can only afford to look after six. And the hardest part is that more people than ever need our care.”

The hospice’s appeal for additional funding has already raised £161,000, but with annual operating costs exceeding £8 million, the need for continued support remains critical.

Mr Lune expressed his gratitude for the recent contribution from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, stating, “This donation means the world to all hospice staff and volunteers who understand the need for our services and support. The funding will help us continue to provide outstanding care and support to local people whenever and wherever they need it – whether that’s at the hospice or in their homes.”

Louise Ware, Sales Director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, also commented on the donation: “We’re honoured to contribute to Prospect Hospice’s ongoing efforts. The dedication and care they provide to our community are invaluable, and we hope this donation helps them continue their vital work.”

The funds raised through the hospice’s ‘Save our Hospice’ appeal will go towards maintaining the essential services Prospect Hospice provides. Upcoming fundraising events include a Garden Fête at Prospect Hospice’s gardens in Wroughton on Saturday, 7th September.

Barratt David Wilson Homes South West is currently engaged in several significant development projects, including Buckley Gardens on Semington Road. The development features 144 properties of varying sizes, including 43 affordable homes. The company is also working with Barratt Homes Bristol and Swindon Borough Council on the Wichelstowe development, a major joint venture that will see the creation of 3,000 new homes over the next 20 years.

As Prospect Hospice continues its critical work, the support from local businesses like Barratt David Wilson Homes South West is not only appreciated but essential. The ongoing collaboration between the hospice, the community, and local enterprises will be key to ensuring that the hospice can keep providing its life-changing services.
