Poundland to Close Stores on Boxing Day for Fourth Consecutive Year to Reward Hardworking Staff

In a move mirroring Home Bargains, Poundland has announced that, for the fourth consecutive year, its 800 branches will close on Boxing Day.

This decision is aimed at providing the hardworking staff with a well-deserved break during the festive season.

The store closures are scheduled for Boxing Day, a traditionally bustling day for shoppers, as well as New Year’s Day.

Simon Wells, the people director at Poundland, expressed gratitude towards the dedicated efforts of the colleagues throughout the year.

Wells stated, “We really appreciate how hard our colleagues work during the year, and closing the stores on these additional days over Christmas and New Year is our way of saying thank you to them – not least because this quarter has been especially busy with new store openings. Their efforts are appreciated, and we hope they enjoy a well-earned break with family and friends over the festive period.”

In addition to the store closures, Poundland has unveiled plans to hire 1,200 workers in temporary roles leading up to Christmas. While the majority of these roles will conclude on Christmas Eve, some will be extended until early January, ensuring the additional support required during the peak shopping season.
