Portsmouth Man Jailed for Indecent Exposure to Children in Swindon

A man has been jailed for 46 months after exposing himself to two children in Covingham, Swindon, last year.

Peter Melville, 60, of Highland Road, Portsmouth, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, 14 February, where he was sentenced after pleading guilty to breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Melville, who was previously known as Raymond Casson, carried out the offence on 3 September 2024, when he indecently exposed himself to the two young victims. The children, who cannot be named for legal reasons, showed remarkable courage in speaking about the distressing impact of the incident.

During sentencing, Judge Emily Hayes commended the victims for their bravery and stressed the seriousness of Melville’s breach.

Detective Inspector Sarah Collins from Wiltshire Police said, “This sentence reflects the severity of Melville’s actions and the breach of the order designed to protect the public. We are grateful to the victims and their families for their courage in coming forward.”

Melville has a history of similar offences and had been subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order designed to restrict his behaviour.
