Popular Swindon restaurant Funky Grilla, which opened just over a year ago, has closed its doors for the last time in what is yet another blow to the Town Centre.
The restaurant, which offered a Korean barbecue menu, was one of the latest additions to the £50m Regent Circus development which opened back in November 2014 with a headline list of restaurants.
Funky Grilla now adds its name to the list of eateries to close up shop at Regent Circus with Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Prezzo, ASK! and Coal Bar and Grill, who were all part of the original tenants as well as Lamaya Bar and Grill and Tiffins the most recent closures.
With the closure of Morrison’s back in 2019, Nando’s and Cineworld are now the only original tenants left in the development alongside recent additions Boom Battle Bar, Dough & Co and takeaway restaurant Burger Amour.
The Swindonian contacted business owner, Mr Amar Cela for a comment and were told the closure was due to the recent rise in utility and stock costs.
“Due to rising costs of gas, electricity and stock prices we cannot afford to carry on the operation. We did try to explore an avenue in change of menu, reduces ingredients prices but unfortunalty this just wasn’t viable to the quality” said Mr Cela.
“I would like to thank the Swindon public for all their support but we are all disappointed at the closure in these uncertain times.”
