Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage following a serious assault on the M4 which left a man hospitalised with facial injuries.
Officers were called to the motorway at around 2.30pm on Monday, January 27, after the ambulance service reported that a man in his 30s had been assaulted inside a vehicle while travelling westbound.
The victim was later found sitting in the passenger seat of a grey Vauxhall Astra which had stopped on the hard shoulder between junctions 16 and 17.
Police also located another man nearby, who is known to the victim and had sustained minor facial injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and drink driving.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment before being transferred into police custody for questioning.
The victim was also taken to hospital to receive treatment for injuries which officers say are not believed to be life-changing.
The motorway was temporarily closed while enquiries were carried out and reopened shortly afterwards.
Wiltshire Police are now asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dash cam footage showing the altercation or the Vauxhall Astra prior to it stopping, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 54260010786.
