Pitch invaders to be banned in crackdown on football anti-social behaviour

Pitch invaders at Swindon Town’s English Football League games will be banned from attending matches in new measures announced today.

In a crackdown on growing anti-social behaviour among fans new measures are new measures, which are being jointly launched by the Football Association, Premier League and English Football League will be enforced from from the start of the 2022-23 campaign.

As part of those plans it has also been announced that supporters carrying or using pyrotechnics or smoke bombs inside a ground will now receive an automatic club ban and be reported to the police.

Other measures to be used form the start of the season, which kicks off next week, include improved searching of fans as the enter the ground and increased use of sniffer dogs.

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham said in statement: “The rise in anti-social behaviour that we saw in stadiums at the end of last season was entirely unacceptable and put people’s safety at risk.

“Together, English football has introduced new measures and stronger sanctions to send out a clear message that we will not tolerate this type of illegal and dangerous behaviour.

“It is the responsibility of everyone in the game, including governing bodies, clubs, players, coaches, and fans, to ensure that we all play our part in protecting our game and each other.”
