Seven Fields Primary School in Penhill has welcomed a generous donation of nearly 100 backpacks, filled with essential classroom supplies, courtesy of the Amazon fulfilment centre in Swindon.
The donation, valued at over £1,000, was packed and delivered by a team of 25 volunteers from Amazon, who spent the day ensuring the backpacks were filled with useful items such as bookmarks, pencils, water bottles, and notebooks.
The initiative is part of a nationwide effort, with Amazon employees from Swindon, Swansea, London, Manchester, and Edinburgh coming together to pack and donate 10,000 backpacks to schools. Worth more than £120,000, these donations aim to provide local children with essential tools for their education.
Irina Curdoglo, an employee from Amazon in Swindon who participated in the event, shared her experience: “I had a great time putting together the backpacks with my colleagues to support Seven Fields Primary School. It’s great to see Amazon supporting the education of children in our area and I’m glad to have been part of it.”
Mrs Karen Luker, from Seven Fields Primary School, expressed her gratitude for the donation: “We are so grateful to the Amazon team in Swindon for this donation of backpacks for our pupils. They will be so excited to receive them and to see what’s inside – thank you, Amazon! We really do appreciate all your support.”
This is one of many ways Amazon supports local communities. The company has also co-founded the Multibank initiative, which has donated over 3 million surplus goods to families in need across the UK.
Amazon has further supported over 700,000 students through its STEM education programmes, and partnered with Comic Relief to raise over £4.8 million to fund projects both in the UK and globally.
