Patrols stepped up to reassure communities in Penhill and Pinehurst this weekend

Police in Penhill and Pinehurst will be stepping up patrols this weekend following last week’s serious assault which left a woman with a life changing hand injury.

A man has already been arrested in connection with this incident and has been released on bail today with a 7pm to 7am curfew and conditions not to enter Penhill as our enquiries continue.

Due to understandable concerns amongst local people and an anticipated increase in community tensions, officers will maintain a visible presence throughout the area over the course of the weekend.

Supt Phil Staynings said: “This is a show of reassurance to the local community that we are taking this extremely seriously.

“Our actions this week have been swift and, with the help of the local community, we have made some important progress in our investigations.

“This is a message to anyone who believes that they can take the law into their own hands  – you will be met with robust action.

“The community have been fantastic in their support so far and we would continue to urge anyone with information about the assault to come forward and speak to police – your call can be in confidence and will be treated anonymously if you would prefer.”

Neighbourhood Inspector Carly Nesbitt added: “We are aware of concerns from the local community and would like to reassure them that we are doing everything we can to keep them safe.

“We are working closely with our partners at Swindon Borough Council on our response and have public safety at the forefront of our minds.”
