Owen’s World visits St Luke’s Academy to discuss tackling knife crime with education, empathy, and empowerment

Students at St Luke’s Academy in Swindon have taken part in a powerful series of knife crime intervention workshops led by Owen’s World, a local charity dedicated to preventing violence through education, empathy, and empowerment.

The Owen’s World Foundation was established in memory of Owen Dunn, who tragically lost his life to knife crime in 2022. Since its founding, the charity has worked with schools and youth organisations across Swindon and beyond to raise awareness and promote positive change.

This marks the third consecutive year Owen’s World has visited St Luke’s Academy – a specialist secondary school for students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The workshops, delivered to pupils in Years 7 to 11, focused on early prevention, behaviour change, and informed decision-making.

Meaningful conversations and real-life lessons

Sessions explored:

  • Real-life stories and case studies highlighting the human cost of violence

  • Group discussions about fear, peer pressure, and moral dilemmas

  • Interactive activities showing the ripple effects of knife crime on families and communities

  • Practical information on the law, joint enterprise, and stop-and-search procedures

Students engaged with maturity and empathy, asking thoughtful questions and reflecting deeply on how their choices can shape their futures.

Owen’s World praised St Luke’s students as an “absolute credit to the school” for their openness and respect during the sessions.

Mr Green, Associate Principal at St Luke’s Academy, part of The White Horse Federation, said:

“We’re incredibly proud of the way our students responded to these workshops. Their thoughtful participation proved that even the hardest topics can lead to the most important learning.
A huge thank you to Owen’s World for delivering such an impactful intervention and helping us build a stronger, safer future for our students.”
