A section of road in Old Town has been closed off by the fire service following a spillage of vegetable oil earlier today.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 pm this afternoon, causing gallons of vegetable oil to flow onto Devizes Road, particularly at the junction with Newport Street.
Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene and have cordoned off the affected area as they work to contain and clean up the spill.
The duration of the road closure remains uncertain at this time.
In the meantime, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays and congestion in the area.
A spokesperson for the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service issued a statement on social media, urging caution and cooperation from the public: “Crews are currently in attendance at a spillage of vegetable oil in Swindon. Please avoid Devizes Road at the Junction of Newport Street.”
Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly as updates on the situation unfold.
