New men’s walk launched to support hospice care and men’s mental health

Prospect Hospice has launched a new community fundraising event aimed at bringing men together to walk, talk and support one another, while raising vital funds for local hospice care.

The Men’s Walk to Support, proudly backed by Swindon Town Football Club, will take place on Saturday 18 April 2026. The 8-mile walk will start at Prospect Hospice in Wroughton and finish at The County Ground, where participants will arrive in time to watch Swindon Town play at home.

As the club’s Headline Charity of the Year for the 2025/26 season, Prospect Hospice has worked closely with Swindon Town FC to create an event built around community connection, shared local pride and wellbeing.

Ben Lee, Head of Fundraising at Prospect Hospice, said the walk was designed to offer men a different kind of support.

“The Men’s Walk to Support has been created to offer men a different kind of space — one where they can walk side by side, talk if they want to, and feel supported without pressure,” he said.

“The event is about the wider mental health challenges men face — not just grief, but stress, loss and the things that are often hard to put into words.

“Walking together, rather than sitting face to face, can make conversations feel easier. That simple idea is at the heart of the event.”

The fully marshalled route will take walkers through some of Swindon’s best-known locations, including the Old Town Railway Path, Wilts & Berks Canal, Designer Outlet and Railway Village, before finishing at The County Ground, home of Swindon Town FC.

At the finish, walkers will receive a free drink and food before taking their seats for the match against Accrington Stanley, rounding off the day with a shared sense of camaraderie and community spirit.

The event is open to men and boys aged eight and over, whether they are walking in memory of someone they love, supporting a friend, or simply wanting to be part of something positive and meaningful. Participants can walk with family, friends or colleagues, or come along on their own and connect with others along the way.

Supporters who don’t wish to walk are encouraged to get involved by cheering on participants or volunteering on the day.

Funds raised will help Prospect Hospice continue delivering specialist end-of-life care for local patients and families across Swindon, Marlborough and north Wiltshire.
