Longleat Estate, steeped in rich history and heritage, is set to host an exhilarating aerial spectacle, Icons of the Sky, from 13th to 15th September, marking two centuries since the pioneering hot air balloon flight graced its skies.
Beyond celebrating the marvel of hot air balloons, this inaugural event promises a mesmerising showcase of legendary flight forms, featuring warbirds such as the iconic Spitfire and Tiger Moths, alongside high-energy aerobatics, helicopter displays, wing walkers, and much more.

Scott Ashman, Longleat’s Head of Operations, expressed excitement about the upcoming event, stating, “Our 2024 festival will be an air extravaganza unlike anything Longleat has witnessed before. We are thrilled to introduce new attractions, with a special highlight on the presence of warbirds.”
The historic connection between Longleat and flight dates back to 1824, when pioneering balloonist George Graham made a historic landing at the estate after taking off from Sydney Gardens in Bath. This year’s festival pays homage to this legacy, welcoming visitors to experience the magic of flight amidst the estate’s stunning backdrop.
The festival lineup includes formation flying, captivating pyrotechnic displays, the iconic night glow, and a dazzling firework finale, promising thrills and excitement for attendees of all ages.
Tethered balloons, including beloved characters such as Rupert the Bear, Thomas the Tank Engine, and Elii the Elephant, will enchant families, while daily flights of dozens of balloons, weather permitting, will grace the skies with their colourful presence.
Scott Ashman highlighted the comprehensive entertainment offered at Longleat, with tickets granting access to the renowned Safari Park, Animal Adventure, Longleat Railway, and lake boat rides, ensuring a memorable experience for visitors.
