New Building Control Feature Set to Make Life Easier for Swindon Homeowners and Businesses

Swindon residents and businesses seeking building control approval now have a more streamlined process to follow, thanks to a new feature introduced by Planning Portal, operated by TerraQuest.

The recently launched end-to-end application system allows users to complete the entire building control application process from start to finish on a single platform.

This improvement comes in response to feedback from users and coincides with an important milestone – nearly 3,000 building control applications have been submitted through the platform in the six months since its launch in April 2024.

A Single Hub for Planning and Building Control

The updated Building Control service enables applicants to request their application fees directly through the site, removing the need for multiple lines of communication. This means homeowners and businesses in Swindon can now complete both planning and building control applications using a single login. The new system also provides the ability to track the progress of multiple submissions in one place, allowing users to manage their projects with greater ease.

The feature makes the process significantly more efficient by eliminating the need for applicants to email or call their local council to enquire about application fees or updates. Instead, notifications are sent directly through the platform, making communication quicker and more transparent.

A Step Towards Digitalisation

Since its launch, more than 100 building control bodies across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have joined the portal. Geoff Keal, CEO of TerraQuest, commented on the milestone, stating: “By making this update to the Building Control service, people in Swindon looking to gain approval to continue with their project no longer have to email or call their local council to find out how much their application will cost.”

He added, “Having the entire process in a single streamlined space means applicants can easily apply, view, amend, and receive the go-ahead without having to keep track of various forms of communication.”

The update is part of TerraQuest’s ongoing mission to simplify and digitalise the building control application process. By enabling both public and commercial users to complete applications in one place, the service saves time and reduces costs.

Moving Forward with Ease

With usability and interface improvements designed to make the application process smoother, the platform is being hailed as a key development in planning and building control. Geoff Keal further explained, “Our team continuously strives to ensure that the Building Control service remains up to date with the latest legislative changes and enhancements to ensure a smooth journey. Now that we’re six months into service, this milestone of 3,000 applications helps cement us as the home of planning and building control.”

The service aims to keep evolving in response to user feedback and legislative updates, ensuring that it remains a valuable tool for homeowners, businesses, and building control bodies alike.
