Planning permission has this evening been given to allow the redevelopment of the Abbey Stadium to go ahead.
It is now hoped the long running saga of whether the new stadium will ever actually be built will come to a conclusion later this year with the opening of new modern facilities at the home of the Speedway Premiership Champions.
Robins boss Alun Rossiter admits it’s been a long time coming – and the time had flown without having fun on the subject.
“I understand the frustration along the way but there have been a number of reasons and Clarke Osborne from Gaming International was at the planning hearing and was as pleased as myself and Lee Kilby.
“It’s been nine years. It’s been emotional for so many people, but we now look forward to seeing the developers do their stuff.”
Lee Kilby added: “We are overwhelmed by this news. It’s a great result and the stadium owners were present at the hearing and spoke positively about the plans.
“All going well the Abbey Stadium should have a new look by the end of 2020.”
