Morrisons has recalled a brand of meat because it could cause sickness and even meningitis.
Packets of 150g ready-to-eat peppered beef slices have been recalled after the Food Standards Agency said they could be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is understood to cause flu-like symptoms and in rare cases can even cause meningitis with those over the age of 65, pregnant women, children and babies less than one month old are more vulnerable to an infection.
Other symptoms include high temperatures, muscle aches, chills, nausea and diarrhoea.
The recalled sandwich meat has a use-by date of February 21st.
The FSA said: ‘If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.’
No other Morrisons products are involved.
A spokesperson for the company said: ‘Our routine testing has identified the presence of low levels of Listeria in this product. We are asking all customers who have bought this Use By date of this product not to consume it and to return it to their nearest Morrisons store where they will receive a full refund.’
