The marketing suite at Orchards Rise and Wichel Fields in Wichelstowe has been transformed into a haven of literary wonder, featuring bespoke ‘cosy corners’ that celebrate the joy and benefits of storytelling. Barratt Homes Bristol and Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, in partnership with NLT, have curated a captivating collection of home-themed books and imaginative ideas to engage families in the enchanting world of stories.

Apprentices from the housing developers have been commissioned to construct a community street library on the Wichelstowe development. This initiative aims to foster a love for reading and encourage residents to share and explore the diverse array of books available.

Andrea Pilgrim, Sales Director for Barratt Homes Bristol, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Creating communities and connecting people within them is at the heart of our own work in this region. We hope families will come in and share a moment together and explore the Words for Life website signposted on our resources so they can find out more.”

Louise Ware, Sales Director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, highlighted the ‘cosy corner’ as a heartwarming space designed to foster family connections through the magic of storytelling. She added, “We’re incredibly proud to support National Storytelling Week, and we hope Swindon’s youngsters enjoy the haven we’ve created at Orchards Rise this week.”

The National Literacy Trust has developed a plethora of ideas to help families interact with stories in unique ways, shared through take-away bookmarks provided by Barratt David Wilson Homes. Additionally, NLT is hosting online events and sharing a host of ideas that families can adopt at home. Further details are available on the Words for Life website.

The Wichelstowe scheme, one of the largest local authority joint venture agreements in the country is a collaboration between Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes, and Swindon Borough Council. Over the next two decades, this ambitious project will deliver 3,000 new homes, new schools, and community facilities.

As families explore the enchanting ‘cosy corners’ and indulge in the joy of storytelling, Wichelstowe continues to shape up as a vibrant and welcoming neighborhood, offering not just homes, but a haven for shared experiences and imaginative journeys.
