As the final bank holiday of 2023 bids farewell, it’s time to shift our focus to the promise of a new year and the array of opportunities it brings for some well-deserved time off.
The savvy workforce knows that strategic planning can turn a modest number of annual leave days into an extended break. In 2024, England and Wales offer eight bank holidays, presenting a prime canvas for crafting an extended downtime.
Crafting Your Extended Break: The year kicks off with the ever-anticipated New Year’s Day on Monday, January 1st. Swiftly following is Good Friday on March 29th, closely trailed by Easter Monday on April 1st.
Here’s where the magic begins. By strategically taking April 2, 3, 4, and 5 off as annual leave, you can bask in a 10-day break, from Friday, March 29th, to Sunday, April 7th, using just four days of annual leave.
May graces us with two bank holidays, strategically placed at the beginning and end of the month so there is no opportunity of extending a break without using the exact number of days leave.
The Summer Bank Holiday arrives on Monday, August 26th. By taking off Tuesday, August 27th, to Friday, 30th, you unlock a nine-day respite, utilizing a mere four days of annual leave.
After a brief wait, the festive season arrives with Christmas Day on Wednesday, December 25th, and Boxing Day on Thursday, December 26th. By strategically booking off Monday, December 23rd, Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24th), and Friday, December 27th, you gift yourself a nine-day festive break, using only three days of annual leave.
The Grand Finale: But why stop there? With New Year’s Day beckoning less than a week later on Wednesday, January 1st, consider booking off Monday, December 30th, and Tuesday, December 31st. This masterstroke grants you a magnificent 12-day break encompassing the entire festive period, while consuming only five days of annual leave.
