Swindon Man Sentenced to Over Six Years for Swindon Home Rape

A Swindon man has been jailed for six years and eight months after being convicted of raping a woman twice in her Swindon home while her children were present.

Abdul Hamed, 35, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court last Thursday (5th December).

The court heard how, in the early hours of 18th June this year, Hamed entered the victim’s home through a window. Once inside, he subjected her to a harrowing ordeal, committing two counts of rape.

Hamed, who was known to the victim, pleaded not guilty to the offences. However, following a six-day trial, the jury unanimously found him guilty.

Detective Constable Ashleigh Moran of Swindon CID, who led the investigation, commended the victim for her courage throughout the legal process. She stated, “This was a traumatic incident for the victim, and I want to thank her and commend her for her incredible bravery.

“Hamed entered her home through a window in the middle of the night, significantly breaching her sense of safety and privacy in the one place that she should have felt safest. He has then subjected her to a horrendous ordeal while her children were in the house.

“He has shown no remorse throughout this investigation and now faces several years behind bars for his actions.

“I hope this sentencing will bring an element of closure for the victim and she can start to move forward with her life.”

The police urge anyone who has experienced rape or sexual assault to come forward, emphasising the importance of seeking support and justice. Specially trained officers and partner organisations are available to provide assistance and ensure survivors are supported every step of the way.
