A 19-year-old man was arrested in Wroughton on suspicion of drug driving after officers stopped his vehicle.
The incident occurred shortly after 10pm on the 6th of August when a roads policing officer halted a Vauxhall Astra, suspecting the driver to be under the influence of drugs.
During the stop, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found what they believe to be class B drugs. The driver then failed a roadside drug wipe test and was subsequently taken into custody.
PC Luke Hobbs, of the Roads Policing Unit, commented on the arrest, stressing the ongoing efforts to address dangerous driving behaviours. “Day in, day out, we continue to stress the dangers of committing any of the fatal five offences – this includes driving under the influence of drugs. This can seriously impact your ability to drive and increases the risk of you causing a serious or fatal collision,” said PC Hobbs.
The suspect has since been released pending further tests and enquiries.
The police urge the public to report any instances of suspected drink or drug driving by calling 101, or 999 in emergencies.
This arrest comes as part of Wiltshire Police’s summer road safety campaign, which was launched last week. The campaign aims to tackle the ‘Fatal Five’ offences with a strong message: there is no excuse for such dangerous behaviours on the road.
