A man was arrested in Chiseldon in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of multiple offences.
Shortly after 4am, an officer spotted a man he believed to be disqualified from driving, drive into Chiseldon Service Station in Marlborough Road.
The man – who is aged in his 30s from Swindon – was initially arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified.
Officers then spotted a knife inside the vehicle he had been driving. This was seized as part of our ongoing enquiries.
A drug wipe test was conducted at the roadside which tested positive for cocaine.
The man was further arrested on suspicion of drug driving, taking a vehicle without consent, possession of a class B drug and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Insp Steve Love said: “This was a positive arrest by officers who were out on patrol during the early hours of this morning and were suspicious of a driver they recognised in the Chiseldon area. As a result of their vigilance, a man is currently in custody, and a quantity of drugs and a knife have been seized.
“Driving whilst under the influence of drugs reduces your ability to drive safely – please think seriously about the consequences your actions could have on not just yourself, but other road users.”
The man remains in custody at Gablecross for questioning.
