Man Arrested After Knife Incident in Swindon – Police Appeal for Witnesses

Police are appealing for witnesses after a knife-related incident in Swindon on Friday evening (24th January), which saw members of the public threatened and a man taken into custody.

At around 6pm, a man was seen walking down Faringdon Road, brandishing a knife in the air and making threats towards a victim. The incident escalated when he arrived at a property on Reading Street, where he banged on the front door before becoming involved in a physical altercation with the occupant. The suspect allegedly went on to issue threats to kill.

Police swiftly attended the scene, arresting a 58-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place, threats to kill, affray, and threats to commit criminal damage. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.

Neighbourhood officer PC Huntington, based in Swindon, acknowledged the alarm caused by the incident, saying: “We appreciate the significant amount of concern that this has had on local residents and would like to reassure the community that we are taking it incredibly seriously.

“We are conducting high-visibility patrols in the area and working closely with our partner agencies to address residents’ concerns and seek a long-term solution.
