A 31-year-old man from Malmesbury is in custody following an incident in Swindon town centre in the early hours of yesterday morning.
At approximately 4.45am on 20 June, police received a report of a suspected drink driver travelling along Queens Drive.
Officers attended the scene and located the suspect vehicle being driven on Salisbury Street.
The vehicle was then lost to sight in Corporation Street before being sighted again in the Magic Roundabout area.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop.
A few minutes later, a man matching the description of the driver was seen running from officers in the Broadgreen area.
Officers located him in the alleyway between Roseberry Street and Graham Street and he was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.
Recovery of the vehicle – a Mitsubishi Colt – which was found nearby, was arranged.
The man remains in custody for questioning at this time.
Anyone who witnessed the vehicle being driven in the town centre area, or anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the Mitsubish Colt, being driven between 4.40am and 5am, should call police on 101, quoting log number 33 of 20 June.
