Your Holiday Starts Now

Kicking off the summer celebrations this Saturday, 21st June, nature enthusiasts can enjoy the awe-inspiring Birds of Prey Experience within the beautifully restored 18th Century Walled Garden. The sight of majestic hawks and owls gliding through the air is sure to leave visitors spellbound.

The following weekend sees the return of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, 28th June, providing the community with an opportunity to gather in a show of support for military personnel, while also marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The commemorations continue on Sunday, 29th June, with Regency Dancing Workshops, offering a graceful nod to the park’s Georgian past — a chance to step back in time amidst the grand surroundings.

As July arrives, so too does one of the year’s most eye-catching spectacles. The skies above Swindon will burst into a kaleidoscope of colour during the Swindon Balloon Festival, held across Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July. This popular two-day event always draws crowds eager to witness the magnificent hot air balloons in flight.

On Saturday, 12th July, film lovers can enjoy an outdoor screening of Sense and Sensibility, celebrating 250 years of Jane Austen. What better way to experience this timeless classic than beneath the stars in such an idyllic setting?

August promises to be equally mouth-watering as the Great British Food Festival returns on 2nd and 3rd August. Foodies can savour everything from street food and artisan delights to live cooking demonstrations. That same weekend, on Sunday 3rd August, families will be treated to a charming outdoor performance of The Wind in the Willows, bringing Kenneth Grahame’s beloved tale to life against the picturesque backdrop of the park.

Mid-August offers something truly unique, as Bollywood Mini Mela Outdoor Cinema takes centre stage on Saturday, 9th August, blending film, music and dance in an uplifting cultural celebration. Just a week later, on Saturday, 16th August, the park will come alive once more for Run the Rainbow, a colourful charity event in aid of Prospect Hospice, inviting participants to walk, run, or even dance their way around the grounds.

The summer programme concludes in spectacular fashion on Thursday, 21st August, with Mad4Animals bringing their interactive big top show to Lydiard. Audiences can expect an educational yet thrilling encounter with exotic creatures from around the globe, including snakes, spiders, and birds.

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Placemaking and Planning, expressed her excitement for the packed calendar. “It’s another jam-packed summer of events at Lydiard Park – it just keeps improving every year. The park is beloved by everyone who knows it, and if you don’t know it yet then there’s guaranteed to be something for you this summer.”

With something for everyone — from history buffs and wildlife lovers to foodies and families — Lydiard Park’s summer programme is once again shaping up to be a highlight of Swindon’s cultural calendar.
