Willowbrook View, a new luxury care home in the Connaught Care Collection, has teamed up with Kingfisher CE Academy in Swindon to create a stunning nature-themed mural in one of the school’s main corridors. Designed and painted by Willowbrook View staff, the mural came to life with the enthusiastic support of students, teachers, and parents over a two-week project.
The idea was spearheaded by Chris Guest, Customer Relationship Manager at Willowbrook View, as a way to strengthen ties between the care home and the school. The artwork also serves as an educational tool, showcasing the diverse wildlife found along the nearby Wichelstowe canal.

Sharon Bishop, Headteacher of Kingfisher CE Academy, praised the initiative: “We are delighted with the work Chris and the team have done in designing and painting the mural. Watching the scene take shape has been a talking point for all the children, from Nursery to Year 3! They have linked the imagery of trees planted by the canal to their own learning, reflecting our school’s vision of ‘Discovering and Learning Together, So All Can Flourish.’ Spotting the different animals and landscape details has even inspired some budding young artists!”
Willowbrook View, set to officially open in early 2025, is committed to being an integral part of the Wichelstowe community. Just last month, the home collaborated with Kingfisher CE Academy to open a community garden—a shared green space where residents and students can meet, nurture plants, and enjoy the benefits of outdoor activity together.
Both the mural and garden are designed to encourage children to spend more time outdoors. Research suggests that exposure to nature and outdoor learning can enhance essential life skills, including communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Time spent in natural settings has also been linked to reduced anxiety and emotional distress among young people.
Chris Guest expressed his pride in the project: “At Willowbrook View, we believe in the power of community spirit, and this mural is a testament to that. We were absolutely amazed by the creativity and enthusiasm of the children who took part. They are truly talented, and we look forward to continuing our work with Kingfisher CE Academy, especially with the community garden once we officially open.”
